Well, we have learned critical thinking for several weeks. As a lawyer, sometimes i think i use it more frequently than others. In daily life, many people are interested in my work. Is it interesting? Of course. Is it excellent as on a TV show? Not really.
I noticed that many my classmates major in the media field. So i want to share my ideas and questions about my major related to media. And I try to use critical thinking to explain it.
I want to talk about the meaning of justice at first. Maybe it is too complex to discuss at the blog. But justice is the most central of law which related to morality, ethic, value and culture. ‘There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes.’ written by William Shakespeare. That sentence can be applied in justice.
In fact, i think justice is critical in itself. When i was a law undergraduate, i believed i can uphold justice for everyone. After a few years work, i realized there is not absolute justice.
Even justice for somebody is injustice for others. But most of the people only want to seize the things and accept the facts in their favour, and they regard this way as justice. In new media time, this view from millions of people creates a powerful force which often influences the judicial decision. In China, more and more public opinions lead legal opinion. The problem is that the most of people just know the little information about real case. But public are very curious about cases,especially sensational cases. To cater to the public to see mentality, new media such as We-media, website are more likely to exaggerate the facts and explain cases subjectively. So readers just read that media want to them read. What’s more? public is stirred up emotions by media. All of them want to take part in judgment by their own values. But they are not jurors.
I ever wanted to explain a hot issue by law to my friend, but she accused me of heartless.She was angry with the judgment and judge. Many people like her only see a tip of the iceberg, but they have infinite faith in their opinions.
Judges are afraid to against public will. Although they make a judgment by law, They can be attacked on the internet and lose their job. Even government also interferes legal affairs because of public pressure.
The problem was caused by the condition. There are different judgments on the same crimes. Then finally injustice has happened.
That’s the question i concerned and i really want to discuss it with my friends.
