Library/ independent thinking

Libraries are special places for me because it is so quiet space that I can concentrate on my study, reflect on my own self, and create new ideas. What is more, I like smell of paper and ink, weight of dictionary, and texture of books. Looking back on my life so far, I was always in library and got clues to solve problems when I made an important decision; in other words, libraries are essential facilities for my life.
Today, (15 Jul) I’ve learned how to use libraries through online Minerva. In the class, although I just took a look at the library site, I found it helps me a lot. There are many useful functions such as searching, booking, keeping, and even effective tips for my study such as critical thinking.
After exploring some of the basic functions, I tried searching the book that I need for genre analysis report. To my surprise, the huge number of possible books appeared though I just typed the piece of words.
Moreover, most books are available online which means I don’t need to go to the library to borrow it. Since my undergraduate date is about 10 years ago, the Internet search at that time was not as convenient as today. I remember that I had trouble getting books I needed for my thesis so I used to go to the city library that was far from my university.
In this reason, I think I’m studying in comfortably environment in Leeds. However, I feel a little concern because as the system of libraries become convenience, students might lose precious opportunities that they can find fateful paper books by chance.

Talking about Independent thinking, it is inevitable skill for students. I’ve learned it from the first Hyde text to Thomas, Taylor, and Chaffee. Reading several texts about critical thinking gives me different perspectives for it, as a result, I can understand and use it from various approaches. Independent thinking is one of essential skills to master critical thinking; In addition, it is also important that analyzing issues, supporting opinion by evidences and questioning.
